About the Opportunity

Digital Management, Inc. (DMI) is looking for an experienced Information Assurance (IA) Engineer to work with their DMI teammates and USAFA customers to develop and install a new Student Information System (SIS) at USAFA. Following implementation and acceptance, the emphasis will shift to operation and sustainment of the new SIS. The IA Engineer will ensure that IA security is built into the new system throughout its development and will be responsible for generating and/or collating all of the documentation required for the new SIS's Authority to Operate/Authority to Connect (ATO/ATC).


Duties and Responsibilites:

  • Coordinate/work closely with Project Managers and other members of the SIS integration team to ensure timely completion of deliverables
  • Manage project tasks, timelines, and communication
  • Work with other information and physical security system security personnel; IT Operations and Enterprise Management System engineering teams and others to implement; refine and maintain an appropriate vulnerability and patch management security program
  • Conducting and maintaining vulnerability scanning on networks; systems and applications.
  • Producing actionable; risk-based reports on security assessment results.
  • Managing; training and mentoring more junior team members.
  • Assisting with vulnerability remediation when necessary.
  • Developing and maintaining security plans and security testing plans.
  • Lead with managing schedule to completion (ATO)
  • Continuously improve risk models; metrics; reports; processes; and activities
  • Manages the security of information systems assets and the protection of systems from intentional or inadvertent access or destruction

  • Recognizes potential; successful; and unsuccessful intrusion attempts and compromises thorough reviews and analyses of relevant event detail and summary information
  • Perform preliminary forensic evaluations of internal systems
  • Interfaces with client to understand their security needs and oversees the development and implementation of procedures to accommodate them
  • Ensures that the user community understands and adheres to necessary procedures to maintain security
  • Weighs business needs against security concerns and articulates issues to management and/or customers
  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned
  • Provides guidance in the creation and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures and other similar documentation
  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned.
  • Participates in special projects as required



Education and Years of Experience: 

  • B.S. (M.S. preferred) in computer science or related field
  • 7 years' experience working with IT systems; system experience used in support of higher learning is desired

Required Skills/Certifications:

  • Able and willing to perform all of the duties and responsibilities described above
  • Excellent oral and written communication: Clear, concise, and professional 
  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) certification, or equivalent, is required
  • CompTIA Security+, or equivalent, is required

Desired Skills/Certifications:

  • Knowledge of DoD, Air Force and/or USAFA documentation and procedures is desired
  • Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) v3 Foundation certification, or higher, is desired
  • Knowledge of, and/or certifications in, the Agile software development methodology is desired
  • Knowledge of, and ability to use, Atlassian Jira software is desired
  • Knowledge of, and ability to use, Microsoft SharePoint is desired
  • Knowledge of, and ability to use, OBIEE is desired
  • Knowledge of RMF and/or eMASS is desired
  • Knowledge of, and experience working with 508 compliance, SSN Reduction Act, PII, and/or HIPPA is also desired
