About the Opportunity

Digital Management Inc. (DMI) is looking to hire a full time  Microsoft SCOM/SCCM Specialist to support one of its government clients in Seaside, CA.This role will develop, implement, and maintain server infrastructure for a large, multi-site enterprise that operates in a 24x7x365 environment.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, install, build, manage, support, configure and test server infrastructure components and connectivity
  • The Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM)  System Administrator is responsible for installing, configuring, and administrating virtual Microsoft based servers in support of business processing requirements.
  • Perform lifecycle management for operating systems as well as applications using the Microsoft System Center suite of products (maintain hotfixes, service packs, software deployments) (SCOM, SCCM )
  • Installs, upgrades, and patches operating systems and complex software packages. Schedules installations and upgrades in accordance with established IT policies and procedures. Conducts routine software audits of Microsoft based servers to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines.
  • Identifying and implementing automation for day to day operations to improve resiliency and efficiency
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation and project plans
  • Work with the Disaster Recovery Team on creating, testing and updating disaster recovery plans
  • Identify physical facility requirements needed to operate server infrastructure components (i.e. floor space, equipment clearance, electrical, cooling, cabling,)
  • Provide primary system administration, configuration, and troubleshooting of the Windows servers  environment and performance issues
  • Maintain server security  in compliance with Department of Defense (DoD) and supporting vendor requirements
  • Perform 24x7 on call duties on a rotation basis with the other system administrators
  • Analyze Windows Systems, check processes and log files, and retrieve and review information contained within logs for troubleshooting. Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot backups, scheduled jobs, and be able to monitor systems and processes and take proactive action
  • Provide consulting services and support for release package testing, installation, deployment and operation
  • Provide troubleshooting and technical support services for server infrastructure and Applications
  • Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements. Perform system changes following existing change management processes.
  • Perform proactive capacity planning, including short term and long-term trend analysis, ensuring all server infrastructure devices are  monitored for capacity and stability
  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups
  • Demonstrate the ability to time-manage and prioritize, take a proactive approach to improving services, and have an innovative and keen interest in learning new technologies.
  • Define and integrate current best practices (technical, security, process) in server infrastructure solution analysis and definition.   
  • Interface directly with end users and other IT groups to ensure complete resolution of server issues reported through the Help Desk tracking system
  • Build Task Sequences for Operating System Deployment (OSD)
  • Migrate profiles with User State Migration Toolkit (USMT)
  • Maintain SCCM Client health
  • Build and maintain SCCM Primary Sites, Secondary Sites, and Distribution Points in multiple environments
  • Patch OS through WSUS/SCCM


Education and Years of Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems / Computer Science or equivalent experience and a minimum of 5 years of related experience
  • Minimum 5 years' proficiency in managing and administering Windows Server (e.g. 2008, 2008 R2)and hardware infrastructure
  • 5+ years of direct experience with SCOM in large environments

Required Skills/Certifications:

  • Security+ CE will be required within 6 months of starting
  • Scripting experience in Powershell and/or VB script
  • Any other monitoring tool experience, such as Solarwinds or others
  • Strong Grasp of Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, File Services and Security
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Availability for 24X7 on call support
  • Hands-on experience in producing quality monitoring solutions for business critical applications

Desired Skills/Certifications:

  • Microsoft operating system certification is a plus
  • Public Key Infrastructure knowledge is a plus
  • Virtualization experience is a plus
  • DoD Information Assurance Vulnerability Alerts (IAVAJ) patching security a plus
  • Windows Server 2008/ 2012 certification  -MCSE/ MCSA /MTA
  • Experience using and supporting Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) /SCCM
  • Windows scripting and automated software deployment experience a plus
  • Foundational knowledge and experience with Information Technology
  • Infrastructure Library (ITIL)
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in management information systems, computer science engineering, business and/or related technical field
  • Citrix XenDesktop knowledge a plus.
  • Experienced in VMware vSphere (ESXi) and vCenter technologies.
  • CISCO UCS Blade Server experience a plus
