Responsibilities

About the Opportunity

The Systems Administrator (Atlanta) is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of a single network enclave or field office location, or for specific, easily defined tasks. These responsibilities follow well-documented processes. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:   

Support shall include but is not limited to the following:

  • Follow well-documented and familiar tasks. System Administrators are provided sufficient training and documentation to accomplish their tasks as necessary or requested.
  • Create and maintain user accounts for case agents using the investigative review aspects of the environment. The environment utilizes a Microsoft Active Directory structure to authenticate users. The System Administrator shall be able to create and maintain accounts for these users as required locally.
  • Apply patches and updates to storage devices and servers. The System Administrator shall be responsible for ensuring that site baseline images are updated on a regular basis as required and in accordance with local laboratory management. Directions on how to accomplish this task are provided, but the System Administrator is expected to be able to accomplish this task by following instructions, and without direct one-on-one supervision.
  • Provide assistance to users following typical procedures. The System Administrator shall be sufficiently familiar with user procedures to be able to provide guidance when systems do not function properly.
  • Manage access controls for forensic casework. The environment utilizes strict access control lists (ACLs) to determine which users are authorized access. Automated tools are in place, which typically enact the required security policies. The System Administrator shall be responsible for adjusting these policies to meet specific requirements as directed by the local facility manager. The System Administrator shall be provided documentation detailing the exact steps, which are to be taken to make typical adjustments.
  • Manage tape backup server and tape backup library utilizing an Overland tape library and ArcServe to backup data. The System Administrator shall be responsible for refilling the inventory of blank tapes, managing out of the normal operations, and identifying and correcting unexpected situations.
  • Update and distribute baseline workstation images to virtual or physical workstations. The System Administrator shall be responsible for ensuring that these environments are maintained, updated, and distributed properly, following detailed instructions.
  • Replace faulty hardware following well documented procedures. Responsible for recognizing failed hardware such as hard drives or servers. They are responsible for following detailed instructions to identify, troubleshoot, and replace faulty equipment.
  • Accomplish diagnostic steps as guided. Must be able to communicate technical ideas and concepts effectively telephonically.
  • Provide direct interactive assistance to users. The System Administrator must demonstrate sufficient effective communication skills to successfully identify cause of problems, to resolve if within their scope, and to defer to the regional lead administrator if appropriate.

  • Active TS is required (SCI eligible)
