About the Opportunity

DMI is seeking a full time AV EngineerThe AV Engineer is a team member in a multi-functional VTC Operations, AV Engineering, and Multimedia Production Support Team of 25-30 contractors and several military staff supporting a DoD organization with video-teleconferencing services on multiple networks. Operational and functional tasks include receiving work orders, defining customer needs, and then scheduling Desktop Video Teleconference (DVTC) capabilities and facilities in support of an Army divisional-level headquarters and tenant organizations with global geographical dispersion; coordinating special AV engineering requirements with outside military and commercial service providers; de-conflicting and resolving scheduling and technical conflicts when they arise; ensuring the proper execution of  AV engineering tasks for executive level clients; communicating requirements to customers and making necessary changes to the schedules  as needed; setting up AV equipment for video teleconferences  and  providing pre-conference testing, then actively monitoring operational calls; provide; performing basic technical problem definition and troubleshooting when needed; assisting with the integration and support of the H.320/H.323 multipoint video-teleconferencing infrastructure; providing client and end-user training, performing scheduled and preventive maintenance on room-based and desktop video-teleconferencing systems; performing other tasks as assigned and demonstrating proficiency, accuracy and attention to detail in assigned duties.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reports to the Senior AV Engineer/AV Engineering Team Lead.
  • Provides support and services in the AV Engineering Team supporting a DoD organization with video-teleconferencing services.
  • Designs, builds, installs, programs, maintains, operates, schedules, removes, and modifies AV equipment.
  • Determines, records, and reports equipment operational status and generates maintenance warranty service status reports.
  • Resolves system operational problems by troubleshooting and performing fault isolation.
  • Repairs, replaces, or reprograms faulty equipment, as required.
  • Performs intricate alignment and calibration procedures to ensure AV/VTC systems are operating efficiently.
  • Schedules AV/VTC sessions, maintains a call schedule and coordinates reservations and scheduling of AV/VTC services with outside agencies for executive level users.
  • Performs setups, tests, adjustments, operations, and shutdowns of equipment in support of AV/VTC sessions.
  • Provides client consulting and training on control, interfaces, and use of the audio/visual and VTC equipment.
  • Acts as equipment custodian and performs inventory asset management and accountability functions.
  • Develops solutions to complex operation problems within the capacity and operational limitations of installed equipment.
  • Trains technicians and end users to operate AV/VTC/DVTC equipment.
  • Provides life cycle refresh projections for AV/VTC infrastructure and AV equipment build out projects.
  • Conducts site surveys to establish AV/VTC Systems and equipment customer requirements.
  • Provides on-site support primarily at main customer site location; provides occasional alternate or satellite site support and/or travel as needed.
  • Provides on-site support primarily during standard business hours and/or contractually mandated core hours from 0600-1800 hours, Monday through Friday; provides occasional support outside of core hours or on weekends as needed.
  • Provides field reporting and assists Senior AV Engineer/ AV Engineering Team Lead as required.
  • Responsible for evaluating, designing, documenting, installing, implementing, testing, maintaining, operating, removing and upgrading, and modifying video teleconferencing equipment systems.
  • Responsible for the generation of and compliance with customer organization and contractual recurring daily, weekly, and monthly reporting requirements; non-recurring and special reports; developing and implementing metrics capture processes and procedures, quality control and assurance processes and procedures; performing other tasks as assigned and demonstrating proficiency, accuracy and attention to detail in assigned duties.




Education and Years of Experience 

  • BA/BS in Information Technology field (or substitute 5-8 years relevant experience)
  • No less than 5 years current experience of performance in designing, installing, and configuring enterprise Desktop VTC deployments. 

Additional Experience

  • Understanding of Department of Defense (DOD) & DISA VTC requirements.
  • Experience with DITSCAP/8500.2 IA controls desired.
  • Knowledge of Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGS) to include Wireless STIGS V6R1 desired.
  • Understanding of PKI desired.

Required Skills/Certifications   

  • CompTIA A+, Network+ or Security+ (The U.S. Department of Defense requires every CompTIA-certified IA workforce member to obtain a CompTIA CE credential as part of DoD 8570 and follow the requirements for renewal through CE activities).
  • -Ability to perform duties in the Department of Defense’s (DOD) classified and unclassified environments including use of KIV-7 encryptions keys for ISDN classified connectivity.
  • Knowledge and use of IEEE 802.3 Ethernet, TCP/IP, QoS, ISDN, Firewall Traversal, SIP, H.323, relevant video standards as well as DoD Video Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG) processes; familiarity with and ability to comply with the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) operational guidelines.
  • Working knowledge of CRITICOM IPDC H.323 switcher between NIPR and SIPR networks, and Joint Worldwide Intelligence Communications Systems (JWICS) VTC systems; working knowledge of the Cisco/Tandberg/Polycom suite of hardware and software to include Video Communication Server (VCC), VCS-Express, TMS, and Codian MSE 8000.
  • Ability to design and set-up management interface, bandwidth utilization, zone distribution, dial plan, telephony integration among other VTC enterprise system requirements.Ability to install, operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and upgrade Multipoint Control Units (MCU) and endpoints for classified and non-classified systems.
  • Experience with installing, troubleshooting, configuring and managing Windows XP/7 workstations, VoIP Phones, Desktop Video Teleconference (DVTC) Equipment.
  • Familiarity with computer networks (LANs, net connections and IP).Strong knowledge of current AV and VC industry practices, standards and procedures.
  • Capability to read and understand wiring diagrams, CAD drawings and schematics.
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office, Project, Visio.
  • High level of problem solving skills and the ability to recommend and implement alternative set-up and/or operations for complex systems.
  • Strong project management skills, detailed oriented, and ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to provide incident and after action reports and analysis.
  • Excellent customer service skills and professional presence.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to read, speak and effectively communicate in the English language.
  • Solid work ethic.

Desired Skills/Certifications

  • CTS Certification(s) desirable
  • Candidates are required to have one of the following certifications within three months of hire: Network+, Security+, A+, CISSP, CISA, SCNP, GSEC, SSCP, SCNA, GSE

  • U.S. Citizen
  • TOP SECRET/ Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) Clearance with Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI).


Physical Requirements: 

  • Frequently lifts, carries or otherwise moves and positions audio-visual equipment weighing up to 75 lbs.
  • Frequently bends, kneels and crouches during audio-visual equipment troubleshooting, maintenance, assembly/disassembly, installation/de-installation, and sustainment.
  • May be required to drive vehicle if needed to perform tasks at satellite facilities in the National Capital Region (NCR).
