About the Opportunity

The LINUX System Administrator support Federal Government software applications and manage Tier level services at the OS layer. Candidate will be responsible for troubleshooting issues with regards to COT/GOT applications, support IAVMs, and validate engineering solutions in the lab. 


Duties and Responsibilities

  • The Linux System Administrator is responsible for the sustainment and maintenance of system applications and managing the OS layer servers which host the applications.
  • The Linux System Administrator must be able to, but not limited to, administering system-level procedures, establishing and maintaining administrator accounts, and assigning or making available file permissions.
  • The candidate will also install upgrades, configure, test, maintain and support system software.
  • Review performance logs and monitoring overall application systems performance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system hardware, software and connectivity issues.
  • Perform configurations and adjustments to enhance system performance.
  • Perform automated and manual backup and restorative processes.
  • Create change request packages, schedule and manage deployments, and work with Tier services.
  • Provide vulnerability remediation at the application layer and manage OS layers.
  • Ensure security procedures are implemented and enforced.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficient in configuration, troubleshooting, installation, operation, maintenance and system administration of DNS Servers and Domain Controllers.
  • Able to troubleshoot automation equipment and systems to a degree required for isolation of malfunctions to specific hardware or software and then restore equipment to operation.
  • Able to quickly learn how to install, configure and administer various Commercial off the Shelf (COTS) automation products and software applications
  • Perform software and firmware upgrades, patches, and application updates to all information technology equipment, systems and applications.
  • Able to perform Information Assurance (IA) procedures to include data backup and recovery procedures. Demonstrated effective communications skills including strong written and oral presentation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to maintain detailed records.
  • Ability and willingness to work in fast-paced environment.
  • Exercise sound judgment in all areas of responsibility.
  • Proficient in the use of personal computers with experience using Microsoft Office Suite and web-based applications.
  • Must be creative and have the ability to look at problems from multiple vantage points Ability to multi-task, prioritizes workload, and successfully handles competing deadlines.
  • Ability to create shell programs and utility scripts.
  • Extensive background working as a System Administrator on the application layer
  • Bachelors in Science or related discipline.





Education and Years of Experience: Associates Degree in Science or equivalent technical experience

  • 5+ Years working as a System Administrator in complex environments

Required Skills/Certifications: 

  • Security + CE (Meets DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification)
  •  IAT - II certified. Close to follow with CE cert if not 8570 compliant
  • Must possess a Secret clearance

Desired Skills/Certifications: 

  • CompTIA Linux +, Oracle Linux , RedHat, SQL,UNIX, WIN

Physical Requirement(s):  

  • Ability to lift 40 pounds
  • Standing and sitting for long periods of time
  • Lab environment (noise, cold temperatures, large equipment)
