About the Opportunity: 

DMI is looking for a UNIX Systems Administrator in Ogden, UT. DECC Ogden provides centralized information system processing services to a diverse and geographically dispersed customer base drawn from Department of Defense (DOD) Agencies, including: the Joint Commands; all Military Departments; and, other governmental agencies which may obtain services on a reimbursable funding basis. The DECC Ogden mission depends on the successful, well-maintained operation of a diverse group of state-of-the-art hardware components and interconnected subsystems.

 

The objective for this project is to provide a full range of Technical, and Service Desk knowledge in support of DISA DECC Ogden.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:  

 

Level III - Unisys Mainframe and Mid-tier Server: In addition to possessing the knowledge listed above under Level II, to ensure continuous operation of processing capabilities, Application support technicians will also possess, at a minimum, the following knowledge:

  • Serves as the senior technical analyst and resolves the complete range of problems associated within the Unisys Mainframe environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of Unisys Mainframe computer operator knowledge.
  • Must understand the database software components used in the DECC Ogden mainframe environment.
  • Must be able to acquire a working knowledge of DECC Ogden applications in order to effectively coordinate and install application releases.
  • Must be able to understand the ESM toolset suite; Tivoli, Managed Objects, Formula, Knowledge Management, BMC Remedy (ITSM) and be able to function above Level II.
  • Must be familiar with and able to utilize the various scheduling products (OpCon) to construct and maintain daily customer processing schedules.
  • Must be able to make dynamic changes to production schedules to accommodate ever-changing user requirements.
  • Must be familiar with and understand the environment in order to perform job restart and recovery functions. Must understand the applications and the interface partners in order to identify and correct interface problems.
  • Must be able to analyze new and existing operational processes and procedures and how to best incorporate into the Service Desk.
  • Must be able to share knowledge and provide training to co-workers to include writing documentation as necessary.
  • Must possess a basic understanding of ECL.
  • Must have a working knowledge of the applications in assigned area. Must have the ability to determine cause and effect when an application has problems, and understand how issues affect other applications on the specific platform or across other platforms.
  • Must possess a basic knowledge in applying customer support concepts, methods and procedures in order to participate in the planning and delivery of customer support activities and troubleshooting of software or hardware components.
  • Ability to research computer errors and create resolutions for malfunctions.
  • Must be able to gain an understanding of the DECC Ogden organizational structure and the associated tools utilized in order to effectively route and elevate problems or issues.
  • Must be able to gain a basic understanding of the shutdown/IPL procedures for the systems in area of responsibility.
  • Ability to use an automated scheduler, define relationships between jobs and set conditions. Define order of jobs without causing contentions. Ability to effectively monitor job processing.
  • Must be able to gain an understanding of the DECC Ogden customer community in order to effectively communicate and coordinate Authorized Service Interruptions.
  • Knowledge of Unisys Mainframe Initial Program Load (IPL).
  • Excellent customer service knowledge.
  • Foundation level knowledge of the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Framework.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to effectively use a telephone (conference calls, transfer calls, put calls on hold, etc.).
  • Proficient in using Windows operating system within a personal computer environment.
  • Good typing proficiency.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time working on a computer.
  • Good troubleshooting knowledge.
  • Telephone etiquette - good personal communication etiquette.
  • Basic Personal Computer (PC) knowledge.
  • Ensure all team members are kept apprised of any issue affecting customer availability.
  • Effectively use web based applications and Windows based applications for monitoring applications and systems, tracking problems, and gathering useful information.
  • Basic knowledge of Unisys Mainframe computer operator knowledge including Unisys commands, and STAR-Tape Management System (TMS).
  • Basic knowledge of Unisys Mainframe Initial Program Load (IPL).
