    DMI is currently seeking to hire a Linux Application Administrator


    Position Description:

    Works as a senior member of the Sustainment Operations team by providing daily system support and maintenance for Linux operating systems on both blade servers and Virtual Servers (VMs), and when needed, supports application troubleshooting and upgrades of new features. The administrator is expected to have a thorough technical knowledge of his/her systems and be capable of managing and executing independent and team tasks as assigned.

    The candidate must be a team player and willing to interact with people at all levels throughout the organization; displaying a spirit of cooperation at all times. He/She must also possess an outstanding ability to identify and troubleshoot hardware and software issues across a variety of systems and software platforms. 

    Organizes, manages, and performs software installations, upgrades, patches and overall maintenance for application software. Provides support for implementation, troubleshooting and maintenance of applications, to include day-to-day operations, monitoring and problem resolution for all of the client problems.   Assists with on-site management of software support requirements and installations. Analyzes, and evaluates new software requirements and prepares specifications for software maintenance and upgrades. Develops software installation and upgrade schedules. Coordinates other required technical resources to support software upgrades and installations. Coordinates pre- and post-installation operations and maintenance support, and documentation. Provides mentor oversight and support to junior personnel.


    Duties and Responbilities:

    • Evaluate, install, debug, maintain and document VMs.
    • Day-to-day operations and administration of assigned systems.
    • Technical Support for the system hardware and operating systems, including responding to Help Desk tickets and working with users to resolve issues.
    • System upgrade, maintenance and enhancement, including installation and configuration of operating systems, administration of user accounts, and maintenance of system security posture.
    • Perform monthly stats and weekly audit log reviews.
    • Install and upgrade system software/ application.
    • Evaluate and implement continuous improvement of application infrastructure.
    • Create, maintain, and restore data backups.
    • Provide technical input for policies and procedures, maintain accurate documentation on those policies/procedures.
    • Adhere to Change/Configuration Management procedures and policies.
    • Properly estimate work efforts and technical challenges (scoping projects).
    • Effectively communicate project tasking status.
    • Research and investigate applications and OS problems and develop viable solutions; report recommendations clearly, effectively and in a timely manner to the team.
    • Work effectively with team DBA/Programmer to meet schedules / deadlines and maintain control of assigned work on a daily basis.
    • Ability to participate in 24 x 7 on-call team (rotating schedule).




    Education/Experience Requirements:

    • MA/MS and 2 years, or BA/BS and 4 years years, or, AA/AS or Industry Standard Certification and 6 years, or combination of education, experience and certification.
    • Must have a Security+ or higher level certification


    Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Minimum 2 years experience with Linux System Administration with 4 or more years’ preferable.
    • Ability to write and modify Linux shell scripts as needed.
    • Experience with System Monitoring Tools; including Veritas NetBackup, Nimsoft, IPSec.
    • Ability to work well in a team environment, promote customer service, and handle technical issues.
    • Strong time management skills and ability to handle technical job requirements within the limitations of a small team.
    • Ability to respond effectively to changing project requirements and/or business needs.
    • Abilty to fulfill OSC workflow and documentation requirements by ensuring all project data, including Configuration Management tickets, are updated in a timely manner.
    • Willingness to take initiative and become familiar with concepts beyond direct area of responsibility.

    Beneficial Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Experience with server virtualization.
    • Experience with server hardening and security implementation strategies.
    • Advanced interpersonal and strong communication skills (oral and written).
    • Ability to communicate with, understand and respond to customer and team members with professionalism and sound business practices.
    • Ability to recognize problems and utilize sound judgment in developing innovative solutions relating to system’s interdependencies.
    • Experience with Nimsoft and Eventlog Analyzer is a definite plus.
    • Practical Oracle Database (11g/12c) and SQL Server (2008/2012) experience is a plus.
    • Windows Server and Internet Information Server familiarity is a plus, while proficiency is a significant plus.
