    About the Opportunity

    DMI is looking for a talented, self starting Research Analyst/Technical Writer to edit white papers and technical documents regarding emerging technologies including Cloud computing, DevOps, Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment etc. Additional documents to be created/edited would be associated with innovative practices or technology that could potentially transform the way our federal client does business. The selected candidate will be able to enforce best practices for writing standards and style in a non-adversarial manner to achieve high quality documents, presentations, and speeches.


    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Provide after-action reports summarizing vendor and interdepartmental meetings. Highlighting useful information, points of contact and reference documents where applicable
    • Help establish a repeatable process for bring research papers, white papers, and other documents to completion as applicable to a mixed team of experts and technical writers.
    • Research and report on federal and industry best practices in the areas of integrating innovation and creating a culture of innovation
    • Research and report on security best practices in mobile-enabled environments
    • Research particular vendors and providers as necessary, using reputable sources e.g. Gartner, interact with vendors on behalf of the organization and arrange product demos and briefings
    • Monitor technologies in use across the government and research emerging technologies or open source alternatives
    • Find and deliver meaningful information, metrics and quotes in support of strategy papers and other briefs to industry or government organizations
    • Provide design and tech editing expertise to enhance strategy papers
    • Provide support for the creation of PowerPoint presentations on a variety of technical topics related to enterprise architecture and infrastructure.
    • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

    Areas of research:

    • Employing Innovation (wearables, mobile apps, etc.)
    • Comparisons and Cost benefit analysis of various available tools, products, processes etc.
    • Maintaining secure networks for the mobile-enabled workforce
    • Utilizing Open Source/Open Standards, Cloud Architecture
    • Maintaining a culture of Innovation within Federal IT Organizations
    • Best practices for IT subjects such as code development, migrations, deployments of software applications,
    • The Research Analyst/Technical Writer will report directly to the Project Manager, while also independently engaging in research, analysis, and writing tasks.



    Education and Years of Experience: 

    • Min. Experience: 3 years of technical writing experience
    • Req. Education: College education with advanced degrees preferred
    • Bachelors degree or higher. Specialization in Technical Writing/English, Information Technology field or equivalent work experience.

    Required Skills/Certifications: 

    • Excellent research, analysis, critical-thinking, and communication skills (written and verbal)
    • Strong time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
    • Self-starter, must be able to work independently and arbitrate differences of opinion within the team
    • Basic understanding of the Software development lifecycle
    • Flair for technology (new interfaces and capabilities)
    • Strong customer service skills (interpreting needs of customer, deductive reasoning) - quick on their feet when dealing directly with clients
    • 1-2 years of desktop office automation (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc) experience preferred
    • Prefer recent experience with SharePoint use and administration


    Additional Requirement(s): 

    • This position requires the selected candidate to pass the DHS agency-specific Background Investigation
    • Needs to go through CBP background investigation process
    • Security Clearance Previous Government Clearance, public trust and/or active Secret clearance preferred
