At DMI, UX Consultants provide user-centered design strategy and execution on client projects. UX consultants are expected to be proficient in at least one of two main disciplines (user research and UI design) and become comfortable contributing in multiple roles over time. Consulting requires particularly good communication and facilitation skills, as UX consultants are often in a client-facing role, serving to solve problems for both the business and end users. These skills are essential for a UX Architect and Practice Lead, which would be expected to provide key strategic UX leadership within both DMI and client business units.   The Practice Lead role offers a lot of variety in the day to day – half of this role will be focused on delivery, with the other half focused on practice support and growth. The UX Practice Lead is expected to support in the delivery of UX to clients by helping provide oversight, training, and tooling to consultants. The Practice Lead is also expected to support in the growth of the practice by supporting in strategic initiatives, sales, and interviewing. Finally, the Practice Lead is expected to actively deliver UX value to clients as a UX Consultant on key strategic initiatives to ensure project/program success.     What You Can Expect in Delivery   Solution Strategy and Design Ops Practice Leads are expected to drive the approach to experience and product strategy within clients. When a UX Practice Lead delivers as a consultant, they are often tasked with implementing and overseeing an optimized design process for a scaled initiative. To do this, the UX Practice Lead will need to be able to analyze the current design resources, tools, processes, methodologies, and allocations. They will need to be able to effectively communicate deficiencies, build a plan for improvement, and evangelize that plan and the value of design broadly across varied stakeholder groups.   User Research & UX Analysis Client projects typically begin with user analysis and research. UX consultants at DMI are expected to facilitate workshops, conduct user interviews, determine information architecture, and otherwise leverage qualitative research methods. Analysis activities may include persona development, journey mapping, and service blueprinting. The ability to build consensus within a stakeholder group and to use data to drive decision-making is critical. A UX Practice Lead would be expected to architect and execute on a product measurement plan, including both quantitative and qualitative measurement methods, and use that to inform Agile product strategy.   Interaction & UI Design UX consultants should exhibit strong design skills, informed by user needs and driven by creativity, and the UX Practice Lead is no exception. Understanding and driving an iterative design process, leading ideation, facilitating whiteboarding sessions are expected. The UX Practice Lead should know how user research informs design execution, and have a portfolio demonstrating strong design skills. Understanding interaction design and how to integrate a client’s brand are integral during the development of both low-fidelity and high-fidelity prototypes. Providing creative direction to team members on design work is encouraged.     What You Can Expect Outside of Delivery   In this role, you will support delivery across the team by helping provide oversight, training, and tooling to consultants. You will also be expected to aid growth of the practice by supporting and driving strategic initiatives, crafting solutions and pitching them to clients in sales pursuits, and interviewing new UX candidates. Finally, you will be expected to actively deliver UX value to clients as a UX Consultant on key strategic initiatives to ensure project/program success. Note: this role is not a “people management” role as much as it is a “process management” and strategy role.   A Practice Lead for the UX practice will: - Aid in crafting new solution offerings within the UX, CX, and product strategy space to further our strategic growth. - Remain current on delivery methodologies, industry, and technology trends via continuous learning opportunities and professional development involvement. - Set and evolve standards and best practices for our UX team. - Oversee process compliance, quality assurance, and continuous improvement activities. - Assist in proposal development, project planning, estimating, pitching and other sales support activities. - Work closely with the Practice Director and other Practice leadership, meeting regularly to ensure practice alignment and success. - Collaborate with Practice Manager and Delivery Operation to resource projects with the right skillsets.
